That's a problem right there. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the apps, but rather your hard drive's compatibility with the Wii U.

Is the USB drive plugged into the correct USB port? On the Wii U I think you choose the one farthest from the edge, but I might have that backwards. Also, are you running the apps from an SD card...

I haven't worked on this in years, but you're not supposed to launch it from a USB loader. You launch from the system menu.
