    [Guide] Flashing ROMS/Kernels

This is the preferred method to install ROMS/Kernels

Try this at your own expense, Hacksden nor I take any responsibility for what happens to your phone.

Credit for this guide goes to:
    koush-ROM Manager
    btango05

    Step 0 - Downloads

If you haven't yet, download "ROM Manager" from the market.
Open "ROM Manager" and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
Then confirm your model. ROM Manager will be granted SuperUser permissions and begin flash. When done, hit OK.

    Step 1- Make Nandroid

Now make a "Nandroid" by selecting "Backup Current ROM" in ROM Manager.
Name it whatever you want and it will save to /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
You will now be able to restore to this point at anytime.

    Step 2- Find ROM

Now, it's time to find a ROM.
Search Google for ROMS or download them through ROM Manager.
If you downloaded manually, you will need to put it on the root of your SD card, (ROM Manager puts it here by default).

    Step 3- Prepare for ROM

    Open Rom Manager
    Press on "Reboot into Recovery"

Use the Vol up/down to move the highlighted bar and power button to select

Each action has a confirmation, you'll see a screen that asks if you want to do what you had previously selected and you'll see:
    -no
    -no
    -no
    -Yes-(desired action)
    -no
    -++++go back+++

So you have to confirm most if not all your actions this way.

Consider this next step MANDATORY unless you are only updating an existing ROM.

    Step 4- Wipe

-wipe data/factory reset(WARNING this will erase all your data!) but if you are flashing a new ROM (as in no previous versions are currently on your phone) its best if you start with a clean slate(if flashing updates to existing ROM's ie CM7 1.6.1 to1.6.2 this step can be skipped). So make sure you have a back up prior!

    After this has completed
    -wipe cache partition

Now go to -mounts and storage

    Format the following
    /cache
    /data
    /system

NOW go back to main menu
    Then down to -advanced

Go down to -Wipe Dalvik Cache

    Step 5- Install ROM

OK Now we've prepared the phone for the new ROM lets go back to the main menu and
    Select "-install zip from sdcard"

Then go to "-choose zip from sdcard"
Scroll down to the .zip you want to install.

Select "Yes" you want to install it:

Now it should begin to install the file and when its done you may have to select "go back" then "reboot"

    Step 6- Repeat Step 1

Now you can enjoy your new ROM.
Kernels can be flashed with the same method, but be sure they are compatible with your ROM.

Try this at your own expense, Hacksden nor I take any responsibility for what happens to your phone.

A nice guide. However, there are a few things:
-Maybe change the color of the headers: that yellow is almost impossible to read.
-For a number of roms/phones there is a alternate way of flashing them, for exampple the galaxy s. You can flash roms on it using so called pit files and the program heimdall or odin.
-Maybe adding a little faq, to help newcomers understand it. In the spoiler below I made an example, feel free to copy it.

Thanks Swiizard, you brought up valid points, and when I get a chance I will add those to the guide.
