It wouldn't suprise me if it's all intentional and that's why they are pushing out all the free upgrades. They'll make the money up if the can stop piracy for all there other software.
Read more at Maximum PCHave you read through the End User License Agreement (EULA) for Windows 10? If not, you might be in for a surprise if Microsoft decides to follow through terms outlined in Section 7b, which warns that Windows 10 can automatically check for and block access to illegal software, including counterfeit games, and unauthorized hardware.
Have a look:
These terms don't just apply to Windows 10, they also cover other Microsoft services and software, such as Skype, Office 365, Xbox Live, and several more.Sometimes you’ll need software updates to keep using the Services. We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. You may also be required to update the software to continue using the Services. Such updates are subject to these Terms unless other terms accompany the updates, in which case, those other terms apply. Microsoft isn’t obligated to make any updates available and we don’t guarantee that we will support the version of the system for which you licensed the software.
I imagine that they just re-used the EULA for the other services, and that it will only affect Windows 10. What are your thoughts?

I don't know if you've heard, but they charge for the DVD player now, and if you don't want ads in Solitaire you can pay 99c a month (or $9.99 a year) to remove them.

Does this go for pirated movies and music as well?
What about copyrighted images? Will the image fail to display if we don't acquire a license for it?
Reverting my laptop back to 8.1 if Microsoft gets out of hand with this stuff.

I didn't mind DRM until it started being a huge inconvenience for legitimate purchases. Some require a constant Internet connection, and others make it difficult to switch between computers

I like the subtle DRM of Farcry 4 and game dev tycoon. GTA V also had a cool one. Screen wobbles like crazy, you walk like you're drunk, cars don't want to drive/break down super fast. There's also a final one to prevent you from moving any forward in the game i've heard.
