If your business is less than 5 years old, apply for BizSpark

A few weeks ago, @filfat suggested I apply to BizSpark. I am so glad I did. The best benefit is all the free software. You get an MSDN account, and at least one copy of every version of Windows for free, as well as the latest versions of Microsoft Office. There are some free developer tools available too, and Azure.

It took over 2 weeks before my application was approved, despite the "up to 1 week" message I got when I first applied.

As with other products and services, what does the price jump to after the trial period is over?

It's not a trial period. It lasts forever.

Oh, I see. The way I reading it is you renew bizspark annually for three years and that's it, there is no fourth year and no way to continue in the program for money.

Yeah, it ends, so you won't get any future software for free. However, anything you activated will continue to work after your BizSpark account is closed. That's something I checked with when upgrading to Windows 10 Pro from the Home Edition. You can get an MSDN subscription for a ridiculous amount of money after your BizSpark account closes, but it's not some kind of auto-renewal thing. You don't give any credit card info for BizSpark.

I don't really understand the whole Azure thing (it's aimed at developers though), but it seems to be a big point of their program.
