I wondered because of health risks.

Health risk are minimal. I have 3 brother in laws that worked in a lead foundry for years. They had to take blood test every so often and when the lead got to high, they got sent to a clean part of the plant for a few days and then back into the foundry. All are still alive and kicking today.

Using lead solder is far, far less dangerous.

Or maybe, now that I'm rich from this latest job, you want me dead because you know I put "Krafter" in my will.

Just for the record, I left all my dollars to you, and all my debt to @RobGee789 (because he won't respond to my PM's).

I bought a modem at the thrift store today so I could take it apart and desolder everything. My head and lungs hurt now, but I've gotten a lot better

Whenever I use the wick to clean up the solder, I leave a burn mark on the board. If I turn down the temp, it dissipates too quickly and the wick ends up being soldered to the board. What am I doing wrong?

Use flux and the widest tip you have. Pinch the braid with a pair of pliers or tweezers. Once the solder melts, move the wick and the iron around slowly moping up the solder.

Ah, I haven't been moving it. Why do I need to use pliers or tweezers to hold it? I've been using the plastic coil it comes in.

I really appreciate all this advice.

Use what ever method works. I use pliers so I can hold it close to the iron.
