Two Private Torrent Trackers taken down by authorities

The first of the two was Blackcat Games, taken down mid october and had a few of the operators arrested. Source

The second of which was one of the most popular private trackers out there, What.cd had 12 of their servers seized four days ago (French source, was the original one to break the news. english source). According to Whatcd twitter these servers didn't contain any of the database, but they went ahead and wiped what servers they had left and called it quits. Here's their twitter, screenshot of the last four tweets below (read bottom up since twitter).

    Spoiler

Also a fun tidbit, Martin Shrekli asked on twitter for an invite not too long ago

Thought you guys might be interested in this. The insanely large public trackers such as TPB can survive being shutdown since anyone can download their database and rehost it, private trackers have a self destruct button in the event that it appears they might be taken down. Everything gets wiped to protect users.

I've never heard of those. I read on GBAtemp that KAT got taken down by the FBI through an ad. Another good reason to use a VPN lol. I use PIA most of the time when browsing for extra security.

What.cd was pretty much the only music tracker and one of the largest private trackers altogether, there's actually no more trackers solely devoted to music that are still up. A couple are planning on going up soon to replace it. PIA is good, make sure you still keep it running while downloading though. On public trackers they get you by having a peer watch the file and send the copyright notices to the IP's on the peerlist. Private trackers you don't have to worry about that as much since it's harder for them to get into tracker to watch the peerlist, but you have to maintain a good ratio.

I got it last year so I could safely use hotel WiFi. I wanted to make purchases and couldn't have everything unencrypted. I'm reasonably satisfied with it, but there were a few months when it wouldn't work.

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. You just don't think they could handle you leaving.
