Please don't post a topic more than once.

Your problem sounds like a hardware one. Do other remotes work? If you only have the one, try pointing it directly at a lightbulb (no lampshades) and see if the hand appears on your screen.

I would say that the wii remote isn't seeing the sensor bar if you cannot see the hand on the screen. That could be a lot of things.

Does that work with LED and CFL bulbs?

I'm not sure. I don't have my sensor bar mounted properly, so whenever it would fall behind the TV and I was too lazy to dig it out of the cords, I'd just point my remote at lights on the ceiling fan and select stuff.

The Wii remote has an IR sensor in it to detect the Wii sensor bar which has IR LEDs in it. The Wii remote uses the sensor bar to determine movement, then the Wii remote send that info back to the Wii via bluetooth. I don't know why it's called a sensor bar because it's not actually a sensor. You can see the IR LEDs in the sensor bar with your cell phone camera.

Oh I know how the sensor bar and remotes work. I got to learn that when mine stopped working. I just wasn't sure if LED and CFL light bulbs gave off enough (or any) IR light like the incandescent bulbs do. And if they would have any affect on the Wii remote at all.

Good explanation all the same though! BTW some cell phones don't show the IR light. I discovered this when trying to show someone and my phone wouldn't but there's would.
