    Nintendo discontinues NES Classic

The incredibly popular, if regularly out-of-stock, NES Classic has been discontinued. Nintendo released this statement to The Verge:
Throughout April, [Nintendo of America] territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

While I was initially very confused, I think it's because they don't want any attention drawn away from The Switch.

Nintendo probably planned a limited run of the NES mini from the beginning. Time to start selling the SNES mini now.

I saw a NES mini at walmart once, but decided not to buy it. I'm not that big of a collector and my Wii and Wii U can run the NES emulator if I ever get the urge to play NES games. If I ever did buy one then it would probably stay in the box to keep the value up on it.

I thought about it and realized that this is probably a really profitable move for them. The NES classic is a one time sale that will never generate them further profit, because new games aren't being released for it. They can sell those games individually via Virtual Console on the Switch and make way more money.

If you still want one you can just buy a 3d printed nes case for a raspberry pi and play pretty much any game up to ps1
